I Think I'm Gonna Cry
"It's self-evident that we support the American bid," German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder told a news conference in Berlin. From here.France echoed Schroeder's remarks: "This request is consistent with efforts for solidarity with the American people," the Industry Ministry said in a statement.
But Europe's pledge of gasoline may carry a political price for Washington. Differences over trade and foreign policy have strained relations between the United States and some EU member states including Germany and France.
Speaking at a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Wales, EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana said: "Whatever the United States asks for they will be given."
The generosity and understanding of our European allies truly makes me want to cry, and it makes me ashamed to be an American when I see how petty and shitty our Government has been under GWB.

Bush "Changes Tone in Washington"
Prior to his arrival, the previous administration was not known for flipping people off. And by that I mean telling people to fuck off by using their middle finger. But Bush has shown that he believes the tone needs changing.
Well, perhaps he had a good reason for this classy show of decorum, and perhaps not.
Regardless, I don't suppose anyone should be terribly surprised by his behavior. The signs were there. Like back in the early '90s when he was running for Governor of Texas and was preparing for an interview on a morning show. Someone asked him a question that he didn't like and let them know it using the same class and flare that he has since brought to Washington.
Yup. That's our President. President FUCK OFF.
Pure class.
UPDATE: Apparently, the Star Tribune's video footage featured in the link above actually shows the President giving a "thumbs up" after being asked a question about CAFTA and if you watch as he lowers his hand, it certainly does look that way. But, the photos above *clearly* speak for themselves, even if Scott McLellan won't "dignify" the press' questions with a response.
Q Scott, last night on the Tonight Show, Jay Leno, who apparently is subbing for Johnnie, displayed a video of the President at the Capitol yesterday. In that video, the President walking away from the press lifts his hand and raises a finger. Mr. Leno interpreted it as, shall we say, a finger of hostility. Each of our fingers has a special purpose and meaning in life. (Laughter.) Can you tell us what finger it was he held up?
MR. McCLELLAN: Ken, I'm not even going to dignify that with much of a response. But if someone is misportraying something, that's unfortunate.
Q Well, it was not a finger of hostility?
MR. McCLELLAN: Ken, I was there with him, and I'm just not going to -- I'm not going to dignify that with a response. I mean, I haven't seen the video that you're talking about, but I know the way the President acts. And if someone is misportraying it, that's unfortunate.

President Bush Strengthens UN
Bush noted that, "unlike Michael Bolton, who is happy to just sit at the dock of the bay, John Bolton has the resolve to eliminate the top ten floors of the UN building in New York." He added that if the UN didn't like that, it was just too bad because Bolton has the President's confidence, just like Karl Rove, Scooter Libby, Donald Rumsfeld, Ari Fleischer, Scott McLellan, Condi Rice and Dick Cheney.
Senators around the nation were unavailable for comment due to their August recess, but it is thought that the Senate would have approved of the President's appointment and the side-stepping of their right to checks and balances against the Executive Branch.

End to War on Terror Now In Sight
Speaking Friday on WFLA-AM in Orlando, Representative Tancredo called for the destruction of Muslim Holy sites in the event that the U.S. was subjected to a nuclear attack by Islamic Extremists.
Sissy Democrats and Liberals have agued that these kind of unbelievably ignorant comments only cause more difficulties with already difficult relations between the U.S. and Muslims around the world and that purposeful destruction of Muslim holy sites would destroy relations and likely not only bolster the Extremist Muslims, but lead to a sharp increase in recruiting as moderate Muslims become insensed and join directly with the extremists lead to an all-out holy war.
Proving that sissy Democrats and Liberals don't know what they are talking about, Extremist Muslims responded to Tancredo's comments by saying that the destruction of their holiest sites would indeed dissuade them from any further violence. Moderate Muslims around the world suggested that such destruction would be understandable and that they would just have to find new holy places or, more likely, just convert to Christianity since its holy sites were still intact.

Media Bias
Let me start off by saying that I don't mean to diminish the tragedy of the London bombings in any way. It was a horrible crime perpertated by heinous and ignorant people that believe violence can solve problems.
The AP (via Yahoo) reports that the death toll from the London Bombings has risen to 52 dead. Indisputably a horrible thing. The British are our longtime allies and these were innocent civilians murdered by violent terrorists.
The Washington Post's Foreign Service (again, via Yahoo) reports that violence in Iraq on Sunday has left 45 dead. Also a horrible thing. The Iraqis are also our allies and these were also inncoent civilians who were also murdered by violent terrorists.
So, the question is, why does the American media not devote bottom-of-the-screen, miniute-by-minute ticker tape coverage of the aftermath of the *daily* bombings in Iraq? Why are we not asking about the loved ones in Iraq with missing and murdered family members? Why don't we see stories on the Iraqis returning to work after the terror? Why no Lessons From Baghdad in Time Magazine?

Letter to a U.S. Congressman
Mr. [CONGRESS PERSON], I am writing today to ask you to publicly denounce the hateful, hurtful, devisive and calculated words that Karl Rove uttered against Democrats and liberals in this nation that do not agree with him and President Bush. As Americans, we have a right and a duty to dissent when we feel that the government does not represent our views. Mr. Rove's calculated words today that "liberals saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers" and "Al Jazeera now broadcasts the words of Senator Durbin to the Mideast, certainly putting our troops in greater danger. No more needs to be said about the motives of liberals" stoop to the lowest of level using a terrible tragedy for political advantage and insults fully half of our nation. As my representative in the U.S. Congress, you must represent your constituency. By failing to condemn the hateful and devisive language of Mr. Rove, you alienate American patriots whose beliefs on how to defeat terrorism differ from Mr. Rove's, but are no less real and no less valid. By defending Mr. Rove, the White House has virtually accused half of the nation of being traitors in league with murdering terrorists. Please join me in denouncing Mr. Rove and his supporters for his vile and insulting sentiment. Please join me in unifying America rather than trying to tear it apart. Please, [CONGRESS PERSON], call for Karl Rove to apologize to this great nation, or ask him to resign his post as Advisor to the President.
